So many wonderful films are being made by talented directors from all over the world, spoken in many different languages. But if Dutch subtitling doesn’t work for you, you might miss a lot of the good stuff. And we don’t want that. That’s why we are introducing our English subtitled movies on Wednesday nights!

In this heartwarming film by Lone Scherfig (‘Italian for beginners’, ‘One day’, ‘An education’) a young woman uses her talent as a storyteller to verbally share the magic of the images she has seen in the cinema with the poor inhabitants of a mining community in the Chilean desert. Sunday is María Margarita’s favourite day, as that is when she goes to the cinema with her parents and brothers. When her family runs out of money for the weekly outing after a setback, María turns out to have a special talent; she can recount films fantastically in detail.

Her gift takes an increasing audience into the wonderful world of film, but meanwhile – we are on the eve of the putsch against Salvador Allende – the Chilean mining town where María lives is about to change forever.
